youralmostcrimes asked: Is it pure coincidence/irony that a few of your works include bear references/symbols and you just happen to be what some would call a 'bear', or are you aware of that? I love love love your art by the way. Really cool stuff.
It all started when I made this image about a year ago. I was going through some tough personal stuff. This image of this powerful bear protecting and supporting me just kinda popped into my head. That piece is entitled, “What is it that I need to be happy?” And I was thinking that the answer to that was a sense of balance or tranquility in my life, support from those around me, and just generally feeling less lonely and/or scared. That image was supposed to represent all that. Since then the bear in that piece has become “The Bear”. I’ve done a variety of drawings, prints, and paintings about him, and my relationship with him. He’s become my power animal. My patronus. My alter-ego. He’s become a character I really care about. He’s gonna be around for a while.
So, that’s the history of The Bear. I suppose I must’ve subconsciously decided that a bear is the animal I could most relate to, and that was probably influenced by the term “bear”, referring to a chubby, hairy, gay dude. I, however, am not gay. Just chubby and hairy. Haha.
So yeah, I’m aware of it.
